Franconia > Pennies for Presents

Ms. Heister’s 5th grade class decided they wanted to help the community.  They heard that Dr. Hanrahan was a member of the Indian Valley Jr. Women’s Club and were collecting money for the Pennies for Presents Campaign.  The class wanted to make a difference and came up with ideas to persuade others to donate money for this great cause.   Everyday, the students wrote a new announcement to share ideas with the student body for ways for them to find change and earn money.  The class also held a “star fundraiser”, during which stars were sold for a fifty cent donation on two separate days.  Students proudly wore these stars to the Winter Concert Assembly.  Many students and teachers gave more than fifty cents to help needy families.  The class felt so proud that Franconia raised so much money and that our persuasive writing made an impact on this campaign.  Many families in our community will have a better holiday now due to Ms. Heister’s 5th grade class’ efforts.
